Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa
Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh

Sangat Ji, as the anmol jeevans of Shaheed Singhs slowly begin to surface, it is also important to remember those bahadur soorme from the Western Hemisphere. In an age where many have forgotten their Sikh principle in efforts to settle on foreign lands, these Singhs foresaked wealth, safety and security to fight for the chardhi kala of the Khalsa Panth. They are shining examples to us all however very little is publicised about these Singhs such as:

Jathedar Talwinder Singh Parmar Canada
Bhai Harjinder Singh Para Toronto Canada
Bhai Mohinder Singh Khalsa Toronto Canada
Bhai Surinder Singh Ravi Toronto Canada
Bhai Davinder Singh Montreal Canada
Bhai Surinderpal Singh Shinder Toronto Canada
Bhai Balbir Singh Khera aka Sakheera Calgary Canada
Bhai Bhupinder Singh Kooner BC Canada
Bhai Harjit Singh Dhillon (Dilvan) aka Bhai Jagdeep Singh Amreeka USA
Bhai Gurcharan Singh Kandola UK
Bhai Hardev Singh Bhappu UK
Bhai Joginder Singh Malhi Germany

Benti to sangat to provide further information on these Singhs and any other Singhs from the West not included. Please share details on their lives and any pictures that are not already online.

The following brief biographies have been taken from another site and edited slightly for grammar.

Bhai Balbir Singh Khera (Calgary)

Bhai Balbir Singh Khera was known by the nickname ‘Babbi’. His village in Punjab was Shahkot-Lesriwala in Jalandhar district. He came to Canada at a young age and went to High School in Calgary although he had also lived in Vancouver.
Bhai Sahib was renowned as a tough person. He was known as a person not to get on the wrong side of. Following the holocaust of the Sikhs in the Indian Government’s Operation Bluestar, Bhai Sahib transformed from clean shaven to Amritdhari Gursikh. Incensed by the treatment of his Quam, Bhai Sahib eventually joined what became the International Sikh Youth Federation (I.S.Y.F). In the mid-1980s he disappeared to Pakistan and it was a few years later, family members learned that he had become shaheed.

During Bhai Sahib’s time in Pakistan, he sent back pictures of himself posing with weapons. He became shaheed at the adda of Jaddi and Jadla villages near Nawashahr either in 1988 or 1987 by Punjab Police. His body was never returned to the family despite many tries by the family. Punjab Police still say it was an 'encounter'. What had actually happened was that he was tortured by the Punjab Police. The Kabbadi Tournament in Calgary is held in his honour each year. The langar hall at the main Gurudwara in Calgary has many pictures of Bhai Balbir Singh.

Bhai Bhupinder Singh Kooner (Williams Lake, British Columbia)

Bhai Bhupinder Singh Kooner was the youngest member in his family and fondly known by his friends and family by the nick name ‘Pinda’. His village was Fattupur in Jalandhar district. The atrocities committed by the Indian Government during Operation Bluestar in 1984, awoken the sleeping conscience in Bhai Sahib’s mind following which he became amritdhari. Bhai Bhupinder Singh left his family to join his brothers in arms. After travelling to Pakistan, Bhai Sahib resurfaced in India as a kharkoo. His group targeted in killing sprees specifically those who were anti-Sikh or overly supported of the Indian Government and their policies against the Sikh faith.

On one occasion, Bhai Bhupinder Singh and his group went to kill a notorious Indian Government official and his family. They killed the family but the son of that family managed to escape and hid away from the kharkoos. Later, this boy was the one that identified to police the people that had killed his entire family in front of him.

Most of these kharkoos used to keep their money and belongings with specific people in specific locations. The person who Bhai Bhupinder Singh had trusted with his money and other belongings had betrayed his trust and informed the Police as to his whereabouts. On one fateful occasion, Bhai Sahib was taking a bath in a tube well challa when the lapdogs of the Indian Government came to get him. He had nowhere to go. Bhai Bhupinder Singh was also killed in an 'encounter' following torture by the Punjab Police. His body was never returned despite many attempts by family members.

Majority of the Shaheeds who joined the movement from the west were affiliated with there local ISYF groups.

Bhai Harjit Singh Dhillon (Dilvan) aka Bhai Jagdeep Singh Amreeka USA was originally a SSF member active in Punjab, then left for USA via Germany, before returning to the battlefield. Whilst abroad Bhai Sahib raised awareness amongst the sangat abroad as well as providing financial support to the families of Jujharoos. He was particularly close to Kanwarjeet Singh Sultanwind's KCF

The Life of Shaheed Bhai Harjit Singh Dhillon (Dilvan) aka Bhai Jagdeep Singh Amreeka : Part 1

Bhai Harjit Singh Dhillon was born in village Dilvan on 30 July 1967 to father Sardar Joginder Singh and the womb of mother Tarvinder Kaur. His whole family were Amritdhari, religious minded and respectful of the principles of the Sikh faith. His grandfather Subedar Major Ujagar Singh Dhillon was a very saintly natured person and was in the company of Sant Jawala Singh Harkowal. His grandmother, Bibi Harnam Kaur possessed an extremely charitable nature. His father's older brother, Sardar Mohinderpal Singh Dhillon is renowned as a successful business man in England. From the start, Bhai Harjit Singh followed his religious interests and in his youth he was deeply attached to the Gurudwara. His initial education took place at the Government Senior Secondary School in Dilvan. He was very clever in his studies and was also a kabaddi player of national level. In 1983, he studied further at D A V College, Jalandhar and also gained admission in to Mehar Chand Political Collage, Jalandhar. During that time, Bhai Sahib visited Sri Harimandir Sahib several times and was very impressed by the speeches he heard by Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Bhindranwale.

Following the attack on Sri Harimandir Sahib in 1984, Bhai Harjit Singh’s feelings were deeply hurt at the manner the Sikh people and faith were being treated. Due to this, his life changed considerably and in order to release the noose from the neck of the Sikh faith he joined the Sikh Students Federation and began to work for the goal of Khalistan. Alongside this, he continued his studies and in 1987 he passed a diploma in Civil Engineering. During this period, Bhai Sahib took amrit at Mehta Chowk following which he became actively involved in the Sikh struggle. However he kept his activities secret and did not let anybody know about them. He lived very quietly. During this time, a close friend from Dilvan and fellow fighter, Bhai Kuldeep Singh Dhillon was captured by the Police. The local sangat and the Sikh Students Federation conducted an eight hour traffic jam at G T Road Dilvan to secure Bhai Kuldeep Singh Dhillon's release, in which Bhai Harjit Singh took a prominent role. Following this, Bhai Sahib came in to the sights of the Police Police and was subsequently arrested and tortured by them. After several days, following pressure from the local community, Bhai Harjit Singh was released.

Part 2 to follow.
