the punjab police used to take credit for a lot of the operations against khadkoos in punjab.even though the army or crpf were the actuall combatants, baba manochahals encounter is an example,another trick used by the police was to use surrendered militants in counter insurgency operations as spotters against there former comrades,once all these operations were completed in 1993/94 these former militants were not set free but returned to amritsar jail.many former militants were still serving there time in amritsar jail in 1994.1995 like panthic commitee spokesmen nirvair singh,former kcf/klf lt general malkiat singh ajnala who surendered at mehta chowk in may 1993,lt gen btfk gulwinder singh galna, lakhwinder singh lakha once area commander of the babbar khalsa who surendered in november 1992, and jarnail singh from village buttari near rayya/ beas also btfk manochahal who were out on bail used in ant terrorist operations then sent back to jail after militancy ended in 1993.

during the hey days of militancy.many political leaders of the congress party courted militants from differant groups and during the postponed 1991 election many militant canditdates were also in the running like shaheed gen btfk sukhwinder singh sanghas brother balwinder singh billu who stood from tarn taran.and baba gs manochahals close confidant shaheed resham singh malmohris wife stood in for her husband as he was in jail. gurchet singh bhuller congress party had the backing of the kcf panjwar group.the late surinder singh kairon was very close to sukhwinder singh sanghas family and also the kcf panjwar faction.but even though he kept close links with these militant groups he always stayed in the high security circuit house in amritsar during campagning rallys.in 1992 during the elections congress leader the late master jagir singh who hailed from khadur sahib police district tarn taran and stood from naushehra pannuan baba manochahals area in tarn taran used the firepower of btfk lt gen gulvinder singh galna alias billa alias galna khaduria to cakewalk to victory.

that version i wrote is from the story covered by india today reporter,kanwar singh sandhu early 1993 iave read other storys were its been said former tarn taran ssp ajit singh sandhu lead armed encounters against militant groups in tarn taran which is false as if he had casualtys would have been on both sides,like in the rataul encounter may 1991 which was a real firefight.in those days the army,and crpf used to do most of the fighting and punjab police used to take the credit.
