Bhai Gurbachan Singh Manochahal, was a brave soldier of Khalsa Panth and one of the trustworthy leader of Panthic Committee. Bhai Gurbachan Singh died as a Martyr at Village Rataul, in district Tarn Taran (Police District at those times). It is truth that Punjab Police and other Government agencies, including para military forces had great fear of Bhai Gurbachan Singh Manochahal in their minds. He was true follower of Sant Jarnail Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale, the twelveth Jathedar of Damdami Taksal. Hundred of times, Bhai Gurbachan Singh appeared as hero while Police encounters happened in the Majha Region of Punjab. He was under a mission to secure independence and dignity for Sikhs. He never killed anyone uselessly or out of hatred. Police touts and cats tried to deceive him several times. He alone on one side and Hundreds of Police men and C.R.P.F Personnels on another side, encounters used to happen for about continuously 48 to 72 hours firing. Every time Bhai Gurbachan Singh Manochahal proved to be more powerful, trained soldier and always victorious. But, every time is not a lucky time, and moreover when Police Cats are hunting you with their ill motives and desertness, as also where Arms and Ammunition challenging Baba Ji used to be in tonns. On his Martyrdom day Baba Manochahal fought like a true soldier and he killed a D.I.G.of Punjab Police in encounter, and after a long hour shootout, he appeared as a martyr. Locals of Tarn Taran still remember the day, when the dead body of this Martyr was brought nearly at 6 P.M and kept in Madan Mohan Mandir at Tarn Taran. True fact is that Baba Manochahal was given some poisonous entoxication in his food by one of Police Cats accompanying him an hour before Police Encountered started. Cleverly, in order to declare Police officials as heroes, locals were ordered by the then SHO of Police Station City to do Deepmala (lightning) in front of their shops and houses, as a dreadful Militant was killed. Except a few hindus, no one did this act in Tarn Taran, rather turned off their lights to mark sorrow and to show feeling of hatred towards Police.
