Pro-Khalistan posters send Delhi police into overdrive

Postby News on Mon Feb 08, 2010 3:10 am

New Delh: A sudden emergence of pro-Khalistan posters at the national capital’s famous Gurudwara Bangla Sahib caused an alarm on Saturday, with both the Congress as well as the BJP expressing concern.

The Delhi Police immediately removed the posters from the entrance wall of the gurudwara, following a complaint that the posters called for pro-Khalistan supporters to congregate at Gurudwara Fatehgarh Sahib in Punjab on February 12 – the birth anniversary of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale who started the Khalistan movement demanding a separate independent nation.

Bhindranwale died in Operation Blue Star in 1984.

What raised eyebrows was a call in the posters for supporters to complete ‘the unfinished task’ – apparently the creation of a separate nation.

Sources said the posters were apparently put up at the behest of SAD (Amritsar) president Simranjit Singh Mann.

Reacting to the development, BJP’s Rajiv Pratap Rudy said it was a “matter of concern and that the Central government should take action again separatist powers” trying to raise their heads again.

PC: Sikh militancy resurfacing
R Sedhuraman
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, February 7
Home Minister P Chidambaram today said there were signs of re-emergence of Sikh militancy, but sought to downplay the issue saying this was not a serious problem.

“There are some signs of militant groups belonging to the Sikh community trying to raise their head in Punjab and Rajasthan,” Chidambaram told reporters while addressing the media at the end of a day-long conference of Chief Ministers on internal security here.

He said Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot raised the problem of Sikh militants entering his state at the conference.

“The Rajasthan Chief Minister did mention it. But in my assessment that is not a very acute problem… The Director-Generals of Police of Punjab as well as Rajasthan assured me that they could handle the problem.” The Haryana police chief also held similar views.

“I don’t think it is a serious problem. But we will keep a watch,” the Home Minister told reporters while replying to queries on the statement by Gehlot.

It doesn't say that the posters where put up by militants. So don't know what your reading.

And as for "kharkoos do real stuff" there's more than one way of being a kharkoo, and doing parchar is one of them.

officially a kharkoo? lol its already stated that manns akali dal was behind it so i don't know where you are getting your info from.

also if you think people in punjab don't know about 84 and will be against bhai beant singh and satwant singh due to the upcoming film then your very naive. people of punjab are very much aware of the delhi and punjab conflict.

Your reply - "I don't think posters were put upp by the militants bunch of teenagers prolly put them up .."

Get the point now? Or are you reading something different from me? Where does it state Kharkoo's were the ones putting the posters up? Or is that just your opinion on this matter.

Here's the poster that was taken down:
