Harchand Singh - resident of Maarhi Khambo Ke, Tarn Taran and is a descendant of Bhai Sukha Singh (Massa Ranghar sodhak)
Both are aged 25-26 years old
What prompted this action?
Natvej Singh had been after Ajit Phoola for 3 years, each time Navtej Singh heard Phoola's name, his blood began to boil. Whenever Navtej Singh would hear of Ajit Phoola visiting any town or city, Natvej Singh would begin planning an attack.
After cases being registered against Navtej Singh by Batala police, he was sent to Ghumtala jail. On May 13, 2008 Ajit Phoola was also sent to this prison after a case was registered for the murder of 7 family members of Bhai Joga Singh Khanpur.
Thus Navtej Singh was granted with the oppurtunity to punish the dusht he had been chasing for the last 3 years. Navtej Singh along with Harchand Singh hatched a plan and registered their names into the pages of Sikh history when on the morning of Thursday, the 28th of August, the 2 Soormay set ablaze Ajit Phoola.
A book by Baljit Singh Khalsa, editor of Fatehnama, named "Hindustani Attwaad" was also recovered from the jail. This book mentions many of the Phoola's mideeds and atrocities carried out upon Sikh families, such as that of Shaheed Bhai Balwinder Singh Jattana Babbar.
Phoola and his armed brigade raided the house of Jattana in the wee hours of August 29 , 1991, and burnt alive four women, named Jasmer Kaur (chachi), Dawarki Kaur (grandmother), Manpreet Kaur ( a class VII student) and Harsimranjit Kaur, a six-year-old handicapped girl.
Co-incidentally? Phoola's death fall, exactly 17 years to the day that Phoola and his gang committed this inhumane act.
How it happened
As Harchand Singh doused Ajit Phoola with petrol removed from the prison generator, Navtej Singh waiting with a scrap of cloth which he had already lit, and threw it onto Phoola's body, thus setting him ablaze.
Current Situation
Police has taken Navtej Singh and Harcharan Singh in remand until September 5th.
