New Delhi, Nov. 1 -- An elderly registered medical practitioner was found murdered inside his clinic in east Delhi on Saturday. The police said the attacker visited the clinic as a patient. Budh Prakash (61) was allegedly involved the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. The police are not sure it the courts had given him a clean chit in the case. The police said that the incident was reported from Trilokpuri area. Prakash was stabbed as many as four times. He had been practising from his house since 1978, the police said. "The ground floor of the house was converted into a clinic. The deceased lived with his family on the first floor of the house," said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity, as he is not authorised to speak to the media. The police said that the incident was reported around 6.30 pm. The matter was brought to light when a patient and his companion, who were waiting at the clinic, went inside his chamber. "He was one of the accused who played an indirect role in the riots. He was even convicted and given an 11-month jail sentence by the lower courts. We are however not sure of the present status of his case," added the officer. The police added that revenge for the riots is one of the possibilities. Saturday was the 25th anniversary of the riots. "We are investigating all possibilities. The victim was allegedly involved in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. We are investigating the angle of revenge as well ," said Dharmendra Kumar, joint commissioner of police (New Delhi range). However, there was also the possibility that as he was a registered medical practitioner, he might have rubbed someone the wrong way, Kumar added. The police said that according to eyewitness accounts, the unidentified assailant had a blanket wrapped around him. A senior police officer, on condition of anonymity, said that if it was a case of revenge for his alleged involvement in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, there was no reason as to why he would be murdered now. Therefore, they were looking at all other angles. The police said that prima facie it looked like the assailant went inside the chamber of the victim as a patient and while Prakash was performing medical checks, stabbed him to death. "The neighbours told us that the man came in a car which did not have a number plate and escaped in it," added the officer.

A case of murder has been lodged and a probe is on.
