shaheed bhai kanwaljit singh sultanwind became the commander in chief of the kcf after the killing of shaheed gen labh singh.sukha sipai in 1988 hoshiarpur district ps tanda.bhai kanwaljit singh ji was a very athletic young man who during his school days was a champion hockey player and keen sportsman.after becoming the leader of the kcf bhai kanwaljit singhs cadres took part in many daring operations in the majha district against goverment forces.he was a dedicated leader who also killed many corrupt kharkoo singhs from his own group kcf and the btfk group which had quite a few criminal elemants in there cadres.bhai ji kanwaljit singh was shaheed when he and his companian shaheed nirmal singh mianwind panthic commitee spokesman were captured from a house in jalandher city on october 18th 1989 by the crpf. jalandher police.bhai kanwaljit singhs companian made an atempt to escape but was captured bhai kanwaljit singh sultanwind could not escape because of an old bullit wound he had in his leg from his many shootouts with the punjab police and security forces.the both of them were taken in a jeep near the sutluj classic cinema bus stand jalandher and killed in a stage managed encounter.ps if you ever visit the punjab visit sultanwind village just outside the holy city of amritsar.there is a memorial to this brave commander in chief singh kanwaljit singh sultanwind and other young men from the village whom he lead in the kcf.

Bhai Kanwaljit Singh belonged to the Sultanwind village of the district Amritsar. Bhai Sahib was chosen as the Mukh Jathedaar (commander-in-chief) of the Khalistan Commando Force, after the martyrdom of the previous commander-in-chief, Shaheed General Labh Singh "Sukha Sipahi" in an encounter in 1988 in the Tanda area of Hoshiarpur.

Bhai Sahib was a very athletic young man, who during his school days was a champion hockey player and a keen sportsman. After becoming the leader of the KCF, Bhai Sahib's cadres took part in many daring operations in the Majha district against the Goverment forces. Hee was a dedicated Singh, who also killed many corrupt Kharkoo Singhs from his own group KCF and also the BTFOK group, which was quite infiltrated by government touts and criminal elemants in their cadres.

Bhai Sahib was martyred when he along with his companian Shaheed Nirmal Singh Mianwind (the Panthic Commitee spokesman) was captured from a safe house in Jalandhar city on October 18th 1989, by the CRPF and Jalandhar Police. Nirmal Singh Mianwind made an attempt to escape, howhever was captured. Bhai Kanwaljit Singh Sultanwind could not escape due to an old injury caused by a bullet wound his leg, from the many shootouts/encounters with the Punjab Police and security forces. Both of them were taken near the Satluj Classic Cinema bus stand in Jalandhar by jeep. There they were martyred in a staged encounter.

If you ever visit Sultanwind, which is situated just outside the holy city of Amritsar, there is a memorial dediccated to this brave Singh and other young men from the village whom he led in the KCF.

this is a update on the life of shaheed bhai kanwaljit singh sultanwind commander in chief of the kcf.kanwaljit was from a rich farming family surname was chauhan.his family had close relations with the late punjab leader pratap singh kairon.and the more recent akali leader simranjit singh mann in the 80s and early 90s.kanwaljits elder brother harjap singh has been elected in the council of amritsar municipal corporation recently. in the familys living room there is a shrine dedicated to kanwaljit singh whom the family ragard as a martyr for the sikh community.bhai kanwaljit was born in 1966 and while growing up had two passions.sikhism and sports field hockey.in the year 1982 at the age of 16 bhai kanwaljit singh went to hear sant jarnail singh bhindranwale.it was there that he was seduced by the romance and adventurism of the militant sikh movement.in 1985 even though many familys extended offers of marriage to the handsome young sikh, kanwaljit singh joined the kcf two years later at age 21 he bacame the commander in chief of the whole organization.kanwaljits family were allways very proud of his leadership role the other young men of sultanwind village were either under his command or scared into silence.the kcf under bhai kanwaljit singhs command took part in many daring operations in the amritsar district which led to the killings of political leaders.govermant officers. and security forces.but villagers from sultanwind village including the police were protected from the violence while the gun toting bhai kanwaljit singh was around.but as with most militant leaders in the late 80s early 90s his leadership and life wasnt long in 1989 nhai kanwaljit singh sultanwind and 2 colleagues were cornered by the security forces in a house in jalandher city.the police aparently didnt know the importance of there catch and while they were being taken to the police station for questioning one of kanwarjits comrades nirmal singh mianwind alias minwindia kcf jumped out of the jeep making a run for it.he was gunned down by the police near to jalandher bus stand.kanwaljit couldnt run because he had a metal plate in his leg from a earlier attack by the police.instead he swallowed a cyanide tablet he allways carried with him incase of an emergancy.like many militant leaders he preferred to kill himself than be tortured to reveal imformation about the sikh militant movement.kanwaljit was 23 years old when he died .in the village of sultanwind there is a shrine for all the young boys who became shaheed from differant militant organisations.

paramjit singh panjwar served under shaheed bhai kanwaljit singh sultanwind.and after his shaheedi in jalandher in 1989 became the new chief of the kcf.

Bhai Sahib's name was actually Kanwarjeet Singh Sultanwind, not Kanwaljit Singh.

Bhai Kanwarjeet Singh Sultanwind was amongst the 'A' rated Jujharoos as per the Punjab Police, Bhai Sahib was a very forward thinking Singh and a worthy General of KCF. Bhai Sahib started of in the KCF under the leadership of General Manbeer Singh Chaheru.

Bhai Sahib was involved in many actions and was wanted in cases connecting to the General Labh Singh escape from Jalandhar courts, killing the perpetrators of the Kanpur killings in November 1984, murder of General Kumar (Bhakhra Dam incident).

Bhai Sahib was strictly against unlwaful killings and harrassing innocent Hindus, due to which Hindus at Bhai Sahib's village greatly admired and welcomed him into their homes.
