A militant suspected to be associated with a faction of Babbar Khalsa group has been arrested from a residential locality in the state capital. "We have arrested two people from Raipur; one of them is suspected to be a Punjab militant. Central agencies have been informed about the arrest and they have already interrogating them," Chhattisgarh Home Minister Nankiram Kanwar confirmed.
Superintendent of Police Om Prakash Pal said a team of Raipur district police raided the Fokatpara locality under Devendra Nagar police station area on Saturday and arrested Nirmal Singh alias Nimma who had come to India from Greece on February 20 this year.
He said the police raided the locality and arrested him following a tip-off from the Punjab Police in this regard.
"We carried out an electronic surveillance to trace him. He has been handed over to the Punjab Police as he was wanted in connection with several criminal cases," Pal said but refused to give any other detail saying that Punjab Police and other agencies were interrogating the militant.
